The Miracle of Mercy

Beginning November 9th

(Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00pm)

Did you know that God’s mercy is his number one characteristic in the Bible? More than his sovereignty, omniscience, omnipotence, omnipresence or any other fancy words about him–more than anger or justice or judgement–more than anything else, the number one attribute of God in scripture is his mercy.

The world portrays God as God of anger and judgement. But God shows himself first and foremost as a God of mercy. All the way back when God revealed his glory to Moses and gave him the Ten Commandments, God said, “This is my name: ‘The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, long suffering, and abounding in goodness and truth’ (Exodus 34:6 NKJV). Notice his number one characteristic is mercy. God did not say, “I am the Lord God, just and righteous,” or “The Lord God, eternal and all powerful.” He said, “This is who I am. I am merciful, gracious patient, overflowing with kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and truth.”

If mercy is God’s number one characteristic that he reveals to us in the Bible—if that is the most important thing he wants us to know about him—then it must be the most important thing for us to learn about him. And it must also be the most important character trait that God wants to develop in us. God is merciful, and he wants us to be merciful too. So in these six sessions we will explore what God’s mercy is all about.

FOURFOLD PLAN FOR YOUR LIFE

A GRACEPOINT SMALL GROUPS SERIES
WEDNESDAYS 6:30-8:00PM

Using a metaphor of the tables Ezekiel saw in his vision of a new temple, Ken Gurley explains the fourfold plan for each believer's life, that is, to love, to grow, to serve, and to go. Small group discussions challenge readers to apply these foundational principles to their lives resulting in deeper personal consecration and a renewed sense of purpose.

30 Days of Prayer & Fasting

August 24-September 22

If we are going to fulfill the great commission given by Jesus to His followers — the call to be disciples making disciples — then we must be people of prayer. As individuals, we need to pray more. As a church, we need to pray more. Not just more words, but more focus, more intensity, more passion, and more commitment. So for the next 30 days we will be uniting in focused prayer and fasting for our community, our families, and our church.

Prayer Meeting schedule:

Wednesday, August 24th — Lesson and Prayer at the Church

Wednesday, August 31st — Small Group Prayer Meetings

Wednesday, September 7th — Small Group Prayer Meetings

Wednesday, September 14th — Small Group Prayer Meetings

Wednesday, September 21st — Prayer Meeting at the Church

Fasting Schedule:

Along with our focused prayer, we are asking each individual to give up one thing during each week of prayer a (e.g. one week no coffee) as an exercise in spiritual discipline. In addition, we are asking for volunteers to fast specific days throughout the 30 day period. We have a sign-up sheet and our goal is to have each day in the 30 days covered in fasting and prayer.

If you have a prayer request you may submit it here.

After You Believe: Why Christian Character Matters

"After You Believe: Why Christian Character Matters"

A Gracepoint Teaching Series

Join us Sunday mornings @ 11am or via podcast

Welcome to our new Gracepoint Teaching series, “After You Believe: Why Christian Character Matters.” Although many Christians are convinced that obeying a simple list of do's and don'ts is the essence of morality, they are mistaken. So are those who claim that following the heart is all that matters. The Bible teaches another richer and fuller path, that of transformation of character. This is the path modeled by Jesus. In this series we will explore Christian behavior in terms of virtue, a quality that was very important in the past but which is not talked about much today.

Using N.T. Wright’s book “After You Believe” as our weekly launching pad, we will seek to better understand and live out the scriptural call for transformation of character. The kingdom of God does not come about by doing what we’ve always done and it doesn’t come about by just doing as others do. It comes by sincerely praying, "thy kingdom come thy will be done" and by allowing the Spirit to guide our steps and transform our character.

This series is for anyone who is hoping there is something more while we're here on Earth. There is. We are being called to join a revolution. Join us each week as we find new purpose and clarity though an eye-opening journey exploring key biblical passages that promise to radically alter the work of the church and the direction of our lives.

To open the series we began with this short excerpt from Rabbi Jonathan Sacks (former Chief Rabbi of the United Kingdom) given during his acceptance of the 2016 Templeton Prize.

You may find more information about Rabbi Sacks, the Templeton Prize as well as his full speech here.

A note to our podrishioners: if you wish to read along with us in N.T. Wright's book you may purchase a copy here.

Soul Keeping: Caring for the Most Important Part of You

Beginning July 13th!

(Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00pm)

"The soul is the life center of human beings" — it is the integration of the various parts of a person: body, mind, and will. It also drives our connections with the rest of creation and with God. In this six-session study, we will inquire into the mysterious nature of the soul. We will consider how one might reorient the Christian life around the practice of soul care. By concentrating on the condition of our souls, we can find contentment in God's presence, during current trials, and stretching into eternity.

40 Days in the Word: Love the Word, Learn the Word, Live the Word!

Love the Word, Learn the Word, Live the Word!

Love the Word, Learn the Word, Live the Word!

40 Days in the Word

Love the Word, Learn the Word, Live the Word

Beginning May 18th!

(Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00pm)

The ultimate purpose of the Bible is not to inform us, it is to transform us. God doesn’t want us to just be hearers of the Word, he wants us to be doers of the Word—living gospels—sharing the good news of Jesus Christ not only in our words, but in our lives.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, so that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. - 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NIV)

In this exciting small group series we have three main goals:

  1. First, we are going to learn to love the Word more than anything else in our lives.
  2. Second, we will explore methods of learning the Word in ways we’ve never studied it before.
  3. Finally, we will be challenged to live the word like we’ve never lived it before.

The Psalmist declared,

"Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path" (Psalm 119:105).

Don't miss out on this exciting opportunity to explore God's Word together!

"A Long Obedience in the Same Direction" - Sunday Morning Adult Bible Study Series

Just us at Gracepoint Church Sunday mornings at 11:00am (coffee at 10:45am) for our adult Bible study series: "A Long Obedience in the Same Direction: Discipleship in an Instant Society." Order the book here!

As a society, we are obsessed with the immediate. Christianity, however, is a marathon of joyful obedience in response to all that God is for us in Christ. In our adult Bible study series, we are exploring the Songs of Ascents that were sung by pilgrims on their way up to worship in Jerusalem. In these songs (Psalms 120-134) we find encouragement for modern pilgrims as we learn to grow in worship, service, joy, work, happiness, humility, community and blessing.

Every day I put my hope on the line. I don’t know one thing about the future. I don’t know what the next hour will hold. There may be sickness, accident, personal or world catastrophe. Before this day is over I may have to deal with death, pain, loss, rejection. I don’t know what the future holds for me, for those I love, for my nation, for this world. Still, despite my ignorance and surrounded by tinny optimists and cowardly pessimists, I say that God will accomplish his will, and I cheerfully persist in living in the hope that nothing will separate me from Christ’s love.
— Eugene Peterson, "A Long Obedience in the Same Direction"
